What is X-RAY ?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

An x-ray is the most commonly performed investigation for assessing injured limbs or examining the chest for possible infection.\u00a0An x-ray image, or radiograph, is produced when a very small amount of radiation passes through the body and strikes a sheet of sensitive film or a detector placed on the other side of the body.<\/p>\n

At Chatswood Infinity Medical Imaging, with state-of-art equipment, we ensure lower exposures and greater dose reduction to patients.<\/p>\n

Patient Preparation<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

There is no preparation required for this examination. However please inform our staff if there is any chance of you being pregnant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Are there any risks?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

You will receive a small dose of x-ray radiation during your examination. The benefits of detecting disease are believed to outweigh any potential risks of receiving a such small dose.<\/p>\n

After the examination<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Your x-ray images will be processed and reported by a radiologist. Generally your report will be sent to your referring doctor in 2 hours time.\u00a0Should you wish to collect your report, you are more than welcome to come back.<\/p>\n

\"CT_equipment1\"<\/a>What is CT?<\/span>
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The computed tomography (CT) scan is a medical imaging procedure that uses x-rays and digital computer technology to create detailed two- or three-dimensional images of the body. Unlike other forms of medical imaging, the CT scan can make an image of every type of body structure at once, including bone, blood vessels and soft tissue.<\/p>\n

How do I prepare for CT scan?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

When \u00a0you book for your CT scan,\u00a0you may be asked to fast for a short period of time. If there is any chance you may be pregnant, or if you are diabetics, please inform our staff before your scan.<\/p>\n

Some CT scans\u00a0require an injection of X?ray dye (contrast) and this will be injected into a\u00a0vein in your arm. So it is important to let us know if you have any allergies or have any other medical conditions that you have.<\/p>\n

    An ultrasound examination uses these sound waves to produce an image onto a screen that shows the inside of your body.<\/p>\n

    An ultrasound examination has many advantages. There is no radiation, which means that it is very safe, there are no injections and there is no pain. The high-frequency sound waves ensure the information is of very high detail, capable of looking at the very tiniest parts of your body. Imaging can be performed while there is movement so it is excellent for the imaging of babies and children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Patient Preparation<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

    Preparation is important to number of ultrasound scans. When you make an appointment, you may be asked to fast or fill your bladder.<\/p>\n

    Generally, your report will be sent to your referring doctor in 2 hours time. Should you wish to collect your own report, you are more than welcome to come back any other day.<\/p>\n

    Mammography<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.<\/p>\n

    An x-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with x-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging.<\/p>\n

    Patient Preparation:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

    When making your appointment, please let us know if you have breast implants as we will need to make sure you have a longer appointment time. If your breasts are tender just before your period, it may be more comfortable for you to make an appointment just after your period.<\/p>\n

    On the day:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Bring all previous mammograms and breast ultrasounds with you (if available)<\/li>\n
    • Wear comfortable two-piece outfit<\/li>\n
    • Please do not wear any talcum powder, deodorant or perfume as this may show up as an abnormality on your mammogram<\/li>\n
    • Please let the radiographer know if you think you might be pregnant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Patient Preparation<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        Nil. Please bring any previous films with you for comparison. If you are on blood thinners such as Warfarin\/Aspirin please inform our staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

        During procedure<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        For injections, scans are taken to locate its exact position. The skin in the area is sterilised with antiseptic, local anaesthetic given, then a needle is guided into the region of interest followed by injection of local anaesthetic +\/- steroid. For biopsies, a needle is guided into the abnormality and a sample taken.\u00a0This is repeated 2-4 times until sufficient material is obtained for pathology. More than one sample is needed to avoid sampling error and ensure there is adequate tissue for the pathologist.<\/p>\n

        How long does a procedure take?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        About 15 to 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

        Special precautions<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
